Gas prices throughout the United States have continued their upward trend over the previous months and years, due to increasing oil prices. Despite the lower demand, potential hurricane development and forecasts of record-high temperatures could cause refineries to halt production and contribute to the increase in prices. As of Aug. 18, the average price of gas per gallon in the United States is $3.873, a 31 cent increase from one month ago but a six cent decrease from one year ago.
Here in Michigan the price of gas per gallon has increased slightly to $3.883, a 34 cent per gallon increase compared to one month ago, and a six cent per gallon decrease from one year ago.
